Teaching, Workshops & Consultancy

Documentary Practice, Ethics & Narrative

I am an interdisciplinary artist and documentary filmmaker with over fifteen years of international experience working across film, installation, sound, and visual art. My films have been supported and exhibited by platforms including Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and major international festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival, London Film Festival, and Sheffield Doc/Fest.

Alongside my artistic practice, I offer workshops, guest lectures, and short-term consultancy for universities, film schools, and cultural institutions. My facilitation focuses on documentary as a critical, ethical, and political practice, particularly in relation to power, representation, and responsibility.

I guide storytellers and institutions in developing documentary and artistic practices that are not only formally rigorous, but are ethically coherent and relationally accountable. My work is grounded in the belief that how we tell stories, especially about collapse, justice, and the more-than-human world, must not replicate the extractive logics those stories often seek to critique.

    facilitation & Workshop Areas

I offer lectures and workshops that can be adapted for BA and MA level, as well as for professional and research-led programmes. Sessions are available remotely or in person.

    Core topics include:

    • From Idea to International Audience

Developing documentary projects from early intuition through to pitch, funding, and circulation, with insight into festivals, broadcasters, and platforms.

    • Documentary as Political Practice

Examining documentary filmmaking as a form of cultural and political intervention, and questioning dominant narratives around “impact” and visibility. We examine documentary as a form of cultural intervention, while also questioning modern narratives of 'impact' and exploring storytelling as a practice of spiritual-political praxis and deep listening.

    • Navigating Funding, Institutions & Gatekeepers

Demystifying the funding landscape and institutional frameworks of documentary filmmaking, while reflecting on how funding shapes voice, form, and ethics.

    • Expanding Documentary Beyond the Screen

Exploring expanded and hybrid forms of documentary practice, including installation, sound, and spatial storytelling.

    • Ethics, Power & Responsibility in Documentary Practice

Exploring questions of representation, consent, authorship, and accountability when working with real lives, political violence, and systemic            injustice.

Workshops combine case studies from my own films with broader industry examples, discussion, and reflective exercises tailored to each cohort.

    Consultancy & Advisory Work

Alongside teaching, I offer short-term consultancy

and advisory support to artists, filmmakers, and cultural organisations.

This work is typically project-based and may include:

Narrative and proposal development for documentary and interdisciplinary projects

Strategic feedback during early development or transition phases

Advising on ethical frameworks, audience engagement, and public presentation

Supporting projects that sit between film, visual art, and socially engaged practice

I am particularly drawn to collaborating on projects that engage with climate justice, systemic unravelling, and the renewal of ecological belonging—work that seeks to hospice harmful narratives and remember more life-affirming forms.

    Selected Experience

I am a former Sundance Creative Producing Fellow and Women at Sundance Fellow, and have received support from organisations including Chicken & Egg Pictures, Berlinale Talents, Hot Docs, SFFilm, MEDIA Europe, and the International Documentary Association. I have also served as an assessor and reviewer for international fellowship programmes.

Alongside my filmmaking practice, I have worked extensively in educational and institutional contexts. I collaborated with SAE University (Kuwait) to design and draft a full filmmaking curriculum, shaping course structure, pedagogical approach, and learning outcomes for emerging filmmakers. I have also worked with Kuwait Television on the development of documentary series formats, advising on editorial structure, storytelling, and production workflows.

Since 2022, my practice has expanded into immersive visual art and installation, bringing filmic, narrative, and ethical sensibilities into spatial and multisensory contexts.
